Miniature Coastal Paintings - A Great Way to Begin Collecting Art

I love painting miniatures. This small (6”x6”) painting format allows me to be spontaneous and to try new ideas. And, sometimes these little gems have inspired a new collection of larger paintings.

These 6”x6” paintings were created using cradled wood panels. When I paint on wooden board I place the paintings in similar frames. Curated as a group they make a nice collection of paintings.

When I paint on canvas I choose a gallery wrap. This means the sides of the painting have a depth of 1-1/2” inches. So the paintings can sit on a shelf or hang on the wall. You choose!

Another aspect of painting miniatures is that it allows me to connect with potential collectors. Because of their affordability it’s a great way to begin collecting art. I enjoy helping people transition from appreciating art to owning a painting.

I love helping people choose a painting and the 6”x6” format is just right for art lovers who have limited resources and space.

Often, people are less intimated to buy a small painting. The scale also gives folks a chance to buy a painting on impulse or two and three as a collection. And, many times these little gems are bought as gifts or as mementos of a trip or special occasion.

These small paintings have proved to be a benefit to my creativity when I’m developing new larger collections. Working smaller gives me the freedom to quickly develop ideas and concepts as well as to work through color harmony.
