My paintings explore landscape. I am interested in describing a quiet world and finding a balance between the luminous expression of nature and pure abstraction. Clouds, horizons, empty fields, trees and the atmosphere of light are my inspiration. My photographs of places I’ve visited, together with the memory of a place are filtered through the landscape tradition.
The paintings explore the nuance of skies and horizons. These visual icons capture the essence and reaffirm the importance of landscape to our natural world. I attempt to give them new perspective through simplicity and appreciation of color. Rather than striving for photographic detail I try to capture the purest elements of the experience, removing unnecessary details, constantly editing and reducing the scene to its purest form.
