Artist, writer and teacher, I am inspired by the landscape. My recent paintings explore the nuance of skies and horizons and strives to capture the pure beauty of a place while trying to reaffirm the importance of these open spaces to the world in which we live.
I aspire to offer a respite from the madness of day to day in a busy world. I left New York City for the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Here, I have embraced a slower pace of life and I enjoy capturing nature’s magic. My paintings touch the mind and heart of the viewer offering them a moment to pause, and reflect, lifting their spirit while enjoying the paintings beauty.
Intention and intuition play equally important roles in my working process. My paintings usually begin with a photograph as reference and intuition guides the works to completion. In my blog, I explore subjects that inspire me as an artist and brings me joy. There you will also find interviews with other artists, reviews of exhibits and books and writings about my paintings.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and studied at The Art Students League and The New School. While at the University of New Mexico, I studied printmaking with Garo Antreasian and John Sommers. After graduating with a B.F.A. in printmaking and art history I moved to Seattle to work as Technical Assistant to Master Print-maker Kent Lovelace of Stone Press Editions (a fine art original print workshop). I have taught art classes at art centers; schools and after school programs. My paintings and prints have been exhibited throughout the United States and in Europe and are in many private and public collections.
Recently, I was a featured artist on ARTSY SHARK.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING….
“My husband and I own several paintings and prints by Barbara. Her interpretations of the rural landscape surrounding us are quite lovely. We have lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia for many years. In just a few short months of moving here, Barbara was able to transpose the subtle beauty of our marshes on her canvas. They are a treasure in our home.” – Annie Jones
“The painting that I purhased from Barbara is beautiful. I’ve had so many compliments about the piece. In addition to her painting, I have purchased a number of her prints as gifts for friends and family. I’ve known her for many years and love her creativity and originality.” – Cheryl Watson
“The prints (“Spring To It and “Afternoon Roundup”) arrived promptly, very well packaged and they are absolutely beautiful. I am very happy and I look forward to adding more of Barbara’s work to my collection” – Sharon M.
